The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ( IAMAW) was founded in 1888 by 19 railroad machinists from Atlanta Georgia and first came to Canada in 1890.  Its first Local Lodge (Lodge 103) was established in Stratford, Ontario by the Grand Trunk Railway workers.  Since then, the IAMAW has grown to more than 800,000 members world wide, with members in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico and Panama.

Local Lodge 386, recognized as the Scenic City Lodge, in Owen Sound Ontario, was organized by 26 workers of Hobart manufacturing and received its charter on February 4, 1954.  Lodge 386 now has more than 150 members working at Hobart and Omni and celebrated our milestone 50th anniversary in 2004.

In  October 2004, the IAMAW and Local Lodge 386 negotiated and signed a first contract for Omni Facility Services.  Although only seven employees, this was a first for our local to take on an affiliate shop.
